For a graduation, the best time to get eyelash extensions is two to three days before the main event — usually the ball. By then the adhesive has cured through its first 24 hours, the lashes have settled and you have had time to get used to the new look. If the photo shoot, ceremony and ball fall on different dates, a simple plan with an application and a refill works best.
In Brazil, and in Fortaleza in particular, a formatura is rarely a single evening. Here is how to plan your lashes for each part of it.
Why graduations need their own plan
A typical Fortaleza graduation can include a cap-and-gown photo shoot, the degree ceremony (colação de grau), a mass or ecumenical service, a family dinner and a ball. Each one has different lighting, outfits and timing, and all of them end up in photos and videos.
That matters because a set of extensions looks its best for about three to four weeks, with a refill every 15 to 21 days. If the shoot is a month before the ball, one application is unlikely to look equally full on both dates.

A simple booking timeline
Start from the date that matters most to you — for most people, the ball.
| When | What to do |
|---|---|
| 4–6 weeks before | Reserve your slots; book a trial if it’s your first time |
| A few days before the shoot | Full application for the gown photos |
| 15–21 days later | Refill to keep the volume even |
| 2–3 days before the ball | Final application or refill |
If everything happens in the same week, one application two or three days before the first event is usually enough.
Demand rises at the end of each semester. Booking ahead means you won’t end up getting your lashes done the day before, with no room for adjustments.
First time with extensions?
Don’t make graduation week your first try. A trial a few weeks earlier shows how your eyes and natural lashes respond and gives you time to choose a style calmly. Read what to expect at your first eyelash extension appointment. If you have ever reacted to adhesive or cosmetics, tell your lash artist beforehand and, when in doubt, check with an ophthalmologist.
Which style photographs best?
Graduation photos mix daylight, flash and ballroom lighting.
- Daytime shoot and ceremony: a natural look with Brazilian volume reads well up close and doesn’t compete with the gown.
- Evening ball: bolder styles such as cat eye or fox eyes show up better from a distance and under flash. For real density, many people choose Russian volume.
- Long nights of dancing: a balanced mapping without overly long fibers tends to stay comfortable until the end.
Your eye shape matters too — see lash styles for every eye shape.
If you would rather keep one look across the whole album, go for a middle ground: light volume with a slightly longer outer corner.
Makeup on the day
With extensions you can go lighter on eye makeup at the lash line. Share these points with your makeup artist:
- No waterproof mascara and no lash curler.
- Eyeliner and shadow are fine, applied carefully and without oily products at the roots.
- Strip false lashes glued on top of extensions are not recommended — the glue can damage the set.
- Remove everything with an oil-free remover and gentle movements.

Fortaleza heat and the dance floor
Fortaleza is hot and humid all year, and graduation balls get crowded. Pat sweat away with a tissue instead of rubbing your eyes. The next day, wash your lashes with an extension-safe foam and a soft brush to remove makeup, sweat and glitter, then brush them once dry. Heading to the beach afterwards? Check how long eyelash extensions last for aftercare.
