Lagoa Redonda is a green corner of south Fortaleza: a large neighborhood surrounded by lagoons, mangroves and Atlantic Forest, right next to Sabiaguaba and its protected dunes. Whether you live here or are exploring the east side of the city, this guide covers the story behind the name, the nature nearby and how to keep lash extensions looking good in an outdoor routine.

The “round lagoon”

According to Fortaleza em Bairros, the city government’s neighborhood platform, there was a rounded lagoon in the middle of the area, locally called the “poço” (the well), which gave the neighborhood its name. Its water was used for fishing, livestock and vegetable gardens, washing clothes, brick making and leisure.

The city’s Sabiaguaba management plan adds that Lagoa Redonda grew as a settlement on the lagoon’s banks, linked to neighboring communities, with cassava fields and casas de farinha (flour houses) that supplied Sabiaguaba and Gereberaba.

Lagoons, mangroves and forest

The city describes the local climate as pleasant, since the neighborhood is surrounded by the Precabura, Miritipá and Redonda lagoons, plus mangroves and Atlantic Forest. It covers about 11.5 km².

Lagoa da Precabura

Precabura is considered the largest lagoon in the Fortaleza metropolitan region and lies on the boundary between Fortaleza and Eusébio. Reporting by the newspaper O Povo describes a rich ecosystem with dunes and carnaúba palms, and at least 172 bird species recorded there. It is a highlight for anyone who enjoys birdwatching or simply a wide-open view.

Sabiaguaba next door

The Sabiaguaba neighborhood borders Lagoa Redonda. The city lists its mangroves, beach, rivers and interdune lagoons, and two protected areas: the Sabiaguaba Environmental Protection Area and the Sabiaguaba Dunes Natural Park. Its dune field stores rainwater and helps regulate temperature. Please follow the rules of the protected areas when you visit.

  • Carry sunscreen, a hat and water.
  • Wear light clothes and comfortable shoes for walking.

Lash extensions for an outdoor life

Water, sea and lagoon

  1. For the first 24 hours, avoid water, steam, saunas and heavy sweating.
  2. After the sea, a lagoon or the pool, rinse your lashes with fresh water and pat dry.
  3. Wash daily with a lash foam cleanser and a soft brush to remove sand, sunscreen and sweat.

Sunscreen and makeup

Choose oil-free products around the eyes, including your makeup remover. Skip waterproof mascara and lash curlers.

Prefer no extensions?

If you spend a lot of time in the water and want something simpler, a lash lift curls and nourishes your own lashes with no extensions, and usually lasts around six to eight weeks. Compare both in eyelash extensions or lash lift.

Beauty services in the region

South Fortaleza has a wide range of beauty services: lash studios, brow artists, waxing and nail salons across the neighborhoods of the region. When choosing a lash artist, look for hygiene, mapping suited to your eye shape, proper isolation and clear aftercare guidance.

If you notice persistent itching, redness, burning or eye pain, stop using products around the eyes and see an ophthalmologist.
