Parque Iracema is a residential neighborhood in south Fortaleza with a literary name. Today it is known for apartment condominiums surrounded by green space, with sports and food options close by. If you live here or are visiting, this guide covers the story behind the name, a few outings in the region and how lash extensions fit into condo life.

Who is Iracema?

According to Fortaleza em Bairros, the city government’s neighborhood platform, Parque Iracema is one of several neighborhoods that honor the writer José de Alencar: its name refers to Iracema, the heroine of his best-known novel.

Published in 1865, Iracema tells the story of a young Indigenous woman, Iracema, and the Portuguese colonist Martim. It is often read as a founding myth of Ceará, which is why her name and image turn up all over Fortaleza.

The neighborhood today

The same city source describes an area of the neighborhood that brings together several high-rise condominiums while keeping considerable green space, plus options for sports and dining.

For many residents, daily life revolves around work, the gym, the building’s pool and short trips around the region.

  • Lagoa de Messejana. Messejana’s lagoon is the neighborhood’s postcard, with a prominent statue of Iracema. See our Messejana neighborhood guide.
  • Lago Jacarey. Between Cambeba and Cidade dos Funcionários, it is the region’s spot for walks, the square and street fairs. Read Lago Jacarey: things to do in Cambeba.

Everyday tips for the heat

Fortaleza is hot, humid and sunny all year, so a few habits go a long way:

  • Exercise outdoors early or late, when it is cooler.
  • Carry water and sunscreen, even for short errands.
  • Plan beauty appointments into your week rather than rushing them the day before an event.

Lash extensions and condo life

The pool

  1. For the first 24 hours, keep lashes away from water, steam, saunas and heavy sweating.
  2. After swimming, rinse with fresh water and pat dry.
  3. Wash daily with a lash foam cleanser and a soft brush.

The gym

Skip sweaty workouts on day one. After that, train as usual and clean your lashes at night. Avoid waterproof mascara and lash curlers.

Refills on schedule

A set looks its best for about three to four weeks, with a refill every 15 to 21 days. To plan yours, read how often to get a lash refill.

Beauty services in the region

South Fortaleza offers a wide range of beauty services: lash studios, brow artists, waxing and nail salons across the neighborhoods of the region. When choosing a lash artist, look for hygiene, lash mapping suited to your eye shape, proper isolation (one extension per natural lash) and clear aftercare guidance.

If you notice persistent itching, redness, burning or eye pain, stop using products around the eyes and see an ophthalmologist.
