Coaçu is a residential neighborhood in southeastern Fortaleza, well served by Av. Washington Soares. For residents it means home, a neighborhood routine and quick access to the rest of the south zone. Here is what Coaçu is, what is worth knowing around it, how lash care fits life there, and how to reach Niely Oliveira — Studio de Cílios in Cambeba.

What Coaçu is

Coaçu is one of Fortaleza’s official neighborhoods. According to the official neighborhood profile, it sits in the southeast of the city and its history is tied to the rural areas that once lay at the capital’s edge, before more recent urban growth. Major access roads such as the CE-040 highway helped connect it to the rest of the city.

It is mainly residential, with about 7,100 residents in 2022, according to official figures.

A useful tip: the name Coaçu also appears in addresses in Eusébio, the neighboring municipality. This guide covers the Fortaleza neighborhood — if you live across the line, see our Eusébio city guide.

Around Coaçu

Centro das Tapioqueiras

The area’s best-known spot is the Centro das Tapioqueiras, a cluster of tapioca stalls at the start of the CE-040, opened on 9 January 2002. The official Coaçu profile describes it as a cultural and culinary symbol of the region, rooted in the tapioca tradition and popular with visitors looking for typical Ceará food. Some sources place it in neighboring Messejana — a sign of how neighborhood lines blur in this part of town. It sits on the way for anyone heading east along the CE-040 toward the coast, and makes an easy outing with visiting friends.

Football pitches and neighborhood life

Official city data record two “areninhas” (public synthetic football pitches) in Coaçu, plus municipal schools — the picture of a family neighborhood with kids playing ball in the late afternoon.

Messejana nearby

Also in the region is Messejana, one of the city’s most traditional neighborhoods, with its lagoon and the Iracema statue. See our Messejana neighborhood guide.

Lash care for a Coaçu routine

People in Coaçu are often on the move: work across town, the beach on weekends, family visits. That calls for low-effort beauty.

Prefer minimal upkeep? A lash lift curls and nourishes your natural lashes, with no extensions, and generally lasts about 6 to 8 weeks. To compare, read eyelash extensions or lash lift.

Going for extensions?

  • First 24 hours: avoid water, steam, sauna and heavy sweating — the beach and pool can wait.
  • After the sea or pool: rinse your lashes with fresh water and pat dry.
  • Daily cleaning: lash foam and a soft brush.
  • Products: oil-free remover; no waterproof mascara or lash curler.
  • Refills: a set looks its best for 3 to 4 weeks, with a refill every 15 to 21 days.

If you notice persistent itching, redness, burning or eye pain, stop using products around your eyes and see an ophthalmologist or dermatologist.
