Cocó is one of the greenest neighborhoods in Fortaleza. It takes its name from the river and the park that shape its landscape, and daily life here mixes apartment buildings, busy shops and the rare chance to walk in the shade in the middle of the city. Whether you live in Cocó or are staying nearby, this guide covers what makes the area special and how to keep lash extensions looking good in a hot, outdoor routine.

What Cocó is

According to Fortaleza em Bairros, the city government’s neighborhood platform, Cocó covers about 3.27 km². The same source describes it today as largely residential, with well-developed commerce and the natural beauty of its green areas.

Its history is surprising. In the 1960s the land was a farm called Sítio Diogo, which ran a salt works. Until the early 1980s, the area where Cocó Park and a large shopping center later appeared was known as a “salt desert”. Few parts of Fortaleza have changed so much in a few decades.

Cocó State Park

The neighborhood’s main attraction is Parque Estadual do Cocó (Cocó State Park). The city describes it as the largest urban park in Latin America, with 1,575 hectares, created after a long campaign by environmentalists for a protected natural area inside the city.

The park’s half-moon shape works as a ventilation corridor: with the seafront lined with tall buildings, the trade winds coming off the ocean enter Fortaleza through Cocó and spread from there. That helps explain the breeze you feel in parts of the neighborhood.

A parks guide by the newspaper O Povo lists trails, playgrounds, an amphitheater, a stingless-bee house (meliponário), boat rides on the Cocó River, picnic areas and sports spaces, with the address on Av. Padre Antônio Tomás. Trails and boat rides sometimes close for maintenance, so check official channels before you go.

Tips for a visit

  • Go early or late in the afternoon, when the sun is softer.
  • Bring water, sunscreen and insect repellent — there is mangrove and dense vegetation.
  • Wear comfortable shoes for the trails.
  • Follow the park rules and leave the wildlife alone.

Daily life in Cocó and lash care

Life in Cocó often means work, the gym, a walk in the park and plans in the evening. Lash extensions suit that pace because you skip mascara and look ready from breakfast to dinner. A few habits make the difference:

  1. For the first 24 hours, avoid water, steam, saunas and heavy sweating. If you train hard or take long walks in the heat, schedule them before your appointment or after that window.
  2. Wash your lashes every day with lash foam and a soft brush; sweat, sunscreen and dust build up at the base.
  3. Use an oil-free makeup remover, and skip waterproof mascara and lash curlers.
  4. Pat dry after showering and brush the lashes into place.

The full routine is in how to clean eyelash extensions.

Keep refills on schedule

Extensions usually look good for about 3 to 4 weeks, with a refill every 15 to 21 days. With a busy calendar, booking your next lash refill in advance keeps gaps from showing before an important event.

Beauty in the area

Cocó and the surrounding neighborhoods offer a wide range of beauty services: lash studios, brow artists, waxing, nail and hair salons. When choosing a lash artist, look for hygiene, mapping suited to your eye shape, proper isolation of each lash and clear aftercare guidance.

If you notice persistent itching, redness, burning or eye pain, stop using products around the eyes and see an ophthalmologist.
