Yes, you can enjoy the beach, the pool and Fortaleza’s heat with eyelash extensions. Sun, salt, chlorine and sweat won’t ruin your set, but they do speed up wear on the adhesive and dry out the fibers. What matters most is what you do afterwards: rinse, pat dry and keep your lashes clean.
Whether you live here or you’re visiting, Fortaleza is hot, humid and sunny all year. Your lash routine has to fit into real life — from Praia do Futuro to the gym — without becoming a chore.
What wears extensions down in the heat?
None of these will make your lashes fall out overnight. The issue is how they add up over the weeks.
- Salt water: dries the fibers and, when it builds up, weakens the bond.
- Pool chlorine: similar effect, especially with long or daily swims.
- Sweat and oil: skin produces more oil in the heat, and oil breaks down lash adhesive.
- Sunscreen and creams: many formulas are oily and speed up shedding if they reach the lash line.
- Rubbing your eyes: the habit that pulls out the most lashes — usually when salt or sand gets in.
Can I go to the beach right after my appointment?
Not on the same day. During the first 24 hours the adhesive is still curing, so keep your lashes dry and skip steam, saunas and sweaty workouts. If you have a Beach Park trip or a beach weekend planned, book your appointment at least a day before.
Your routine after the beach, Beach Park or the pool
- Rinse with fresh water. A shower or a splash on your face removes most of the salt and chlorine.
- Pat dry. Press a towel gently — no rubbing. A hairdryer on the cool setting, held at a distance, also works.
- Wash with lash foam. In the evening, clean your lashes with an extension-safe foam and a soft brush.
- Brush them out. Once dry, comb through with a spoolie.
- Don’t rub. If sand or salt gets in, rinse with water instead.
Built-up salt and chlorine do more harm than the swim itself. Rinsing the same day is the single best habit for your set.
Sunscreen around the eyes
Sunscreen is non-negotiable under the Fortaleza sun. You just need to be careful near your lashes:
- Choose an oil-free facial sunscreen.
- Apply it to the lids and around the eyes with a fingertip, keeping it away from the lash roots.
- Sunglasses and a hat protect the area and mean less reapplying near your lashes.
- Remove it with an oil-free makeup remover.
If a sunscreen stings or makes your eyes red, stop using it and see an ophthalmologist or dermatologist.
Working out and sweating
After the first 24 hours, go ahead. A few tips if you train hard or run along Beira-Mar:
- Keep a clean towel handy and dab your face instead of wiping.
- Don’t let sweat dry on your lashes — rinse your face after training.
- Do your foam cleanse at the end of the day.
- A headband helps stop sweat running down from your forehead.
Which style suits a sun-and-sea lifestyle?
Beach lovers often go lighter. Brazilian Volume, with Y-shaped fibers, gives soft, natural fullness. Russian Volume creates a denser, bolder look. Both work with the right care — compare them in Brazilian vs Russian volume lashes.
Prefer no extensions at all? A Lash Lift curls and nourishes your natural lashes and generally lasts about 6–8 weeks. See lash lifting in Fortaleza.
Does beach life change the refill schedule?
The recommendation stays the same: a refill every 15 to 21 days. In busy, sunny seasons like New Year’s (Réveillon) and Carnaval, book toward the start of that window so your set stays full. For more on how long a set lasts, read how long eyelash extensions last.
When to get help
Persistent itching, redness, swelling or burning are not normal. Don’t try to remove the extensions yourself — see an ophthalmologist and let your lash artist know.
