Most people should book an eyelash extension refill every 15 to 21 days. In that window there are still enough extensions in place for your lash artist to replace what has shed and keep the look even. After about four weeks, so many lashes have usually gone that a full new set is the better option.

Knowing this rhythm makes it easier to plan ahead, avoid gaps and look after your natural lashes.

Why do extensions need refills?

Each extension is attached to one natural lash. Natural lashes have their own cycle: they grow, rest and shed, and new ones replace them. When a natural lash falls, its extension goes with it.

Because this happens gradually, shedding is constant. At a refill, your lash artist will:

  1. Clean your lashes.
  2. Remove extensions that have grown out or gone crooked.
  3. Apply new extensions to new or bare natural lashes.
  4. Adjust the mapping so the effect stays balanced.

How often should you book?

The 15–21 day window works for most people, but some things push you toward the earlier or later end:

  • Oily skin, which tends to break down adhesive faster.
  • Beach, pool and gym routines — very Fortaleza — if you don’t rinse and clean afterwards.
  • Sleeping face-down, which crushes and loosens lashes.
  • Rubbing or touching your eyes.
  • Your own lash cycle, which varies from person to person.

What happens if you wait too long?

Running a few days late now and then is fine. Leaving it much longer has consequences:

  • Visible gaps — the look becomes patchy.
  • Grown-out extensions move away from the lid and can twist or cross.
  • Extra strain — overgrown, misaligned extensions can feel uncomfortable.
  • Harder cleaning, as crooked lashes trap more residue.
  • More work at the appointment, since more lashes need removing and replacing.

Keeping refills on schedule means your lashes look good all the time, without a “half-set” phase.

  • Never remove extensions at home.

If you notice persistent itching, redness or burning, don’t wait for your refill: see an ophthalmologist and let your lash artist know.
