A lash lift curls and nourishes your natural lashes without adding a single extension. You get a more open, defined eye, like you just used a lash curler, except it holds and you can skip the curler every morning.

The effect usually lasts about six to eight weeks, following your lashes’ natural growth cycle. In Fortaleza, where it’s hot, you’re often at the beach and heavy makeup doesn’t hold up well, it’s an easy way to get more out of the lashes you already have.

What is a lash lift?

A lash lift shapes the curl of your natural lashes from the root. The lashes are positioned and set so they sit higher, and a final step nourishes them so they look healthy.

Since nothing is added, the result depends on your own lashes: their length, density and thickness. Long lashes that grow straight or point downward usually show the most visible change.

Lash lift vs eyelash extensions

Lash Lifting Eyelash extensions
How it works Curls and nourishes natural lashes Attaches fibers to each natural lash
Length and volume Your own, enhanced Added according to mapping
How long it lasts Usually 6 to 8 weeks Looks best for 3 to 4 weeks, with refills
Upkeep No refills Refill every 15 to 21 days
Look Natural, wide-awake Anywhere from natural to dramatic

If you want extra volume, density or a specific effect like cat eye or fox eyes, extensions are the way to go. See how Brazilian and Russian volume compare.

Who is a lash lift for?

A lift tends to suit you if you:

  • have decent length but straight or droopy lashes
  • want a natural result with no feeling of added fibers
  • prefer low-maintenance beauty
  • use a lash curler daily and want to drop that step
  • are taking a break from extensions and want to stay defined

It may not be the best fit if your lashes are very short or sparse: a lift enhances what’s there but doesn’t add lashes. If you have irritation, allergies or any eye condition, check with an ophthalmologist first.

How long does a lash lift last?

Usually six to eight weeks. Lashes shed and regrow all the time, so lifted lashes are gradually replaced by new, uncurled ones. The effect softens slowly and naturally, without leaving gaps.

What affects how long it holds:

  1. Your own lash growth cycle
  2. How you treat them in the first 24 hours
  3. Rubbing your eyes or sleeping face-down
  4. Oily products around the eyes

Aftercare in the Fortaleza heat

First 24 hours

  • Keep your lashes dry.
  • Skip saunas, steam and sweaty workouts.
  • Don’t rub your eyes.

Every day

  • Brush your lashes in the morning with a spoolie.
  • Use gentle, oil-free makeup remover.
  • After the beach (Beira-Mar, Praia do Futuro, a day at Beach Park) or the pool, rinse your face with fresh water and pat dry.
  • Apply sunscreen carefully around the eyes so it doesn’t coat your lashes.

A lash lift is made for waking up ready to go, even on the hottest days.

If you notice persistent itching, redness, burning or eye pain, don’t push through it: see an ophthalmologist.

A lash lift before a big event

For weddings, graduations, Réveillon, Carnaval or São João, a lift gives you a natural, defined look in photos. Book it a few days ahead so your lashes have settled. If you’d rather go bolder, extensions are an option; here is how long eyelash extensions last.
