If you live in Fortaleza’s south zone, Av. Washington Soares is part of your routine: it is how many people get to university, work, the mall and the beach. Described as the longest avenue in Fortaleza and one of its most important, it doubles as state highway CE-040, which continues toward the Ceará coast.
This guide covers the main landmarks along the avenue, the neighborhoods it links, and how to fit lash care into a routine that runs along it — with Niely Oliveira — Studio de Cílios in the area, in Cambeba.
Neighborhoods along the avenue
The avenue connects the Iguatemi area with south zone neighborhoods such as:
- Edson Queiroz;
- Engenheiro Luciano Cavalcante;
- Jardim das Oliveiras;
- Cidade dos Funcionários;
- Parque Manibura;
- Cambeba;
- José de Alencar.
Heading toward the coast, it continues on to Eusébio. Cambeba, for example, is bordered by Washington Soares on its eastern side.
Landmarks along the way
Iguatemi Fortaleza
Washington Soares is known for starting — or ending, depending on your direction — at Iguatemi Fortaleza, a handy reference point for finding your way.
Ceará Events Center
In the Edson Queiroz stretch is the Centro de Eventos do Ceará, a state government venue that hosts conferences, trade fairs and large events.
Unifor and Passeio Edson Queiroz
At number 1321 is the University of Fortaleza (Unifor). In front of its rectorate, on the avenue’s central stretch, is Passeio Edson Queiroz, a public leisure space opened in 2018 with gardens, benches, a fountain and native Ceará plants. More in our Edson Queiroz neighborhood guide.
Via Sul Shopping
The avenue also passes Via Sul Shopping, another familiar landmark for anyone getting around the south zone.
Casa de José de Alencar
At number 6055, in the José de Alencar neighborhood, is the Casa de José de Alencar, a cultural venue of the Federal University of Ceará (UFC) with exhibition rooms, an auditorium and a green area. It pairs well with a visit to the Messejana lagoon and its Iracema statue — see our Messejana neighborhood guide.
Traffic and planning
With colleges, schools, supermarkets and shops along the way, Washington Soares gets busy at rush hour. For any appointment in the area, leave with time to spare and think about the time of day when you plan your schedule.
That goes for lashes too: appointments at the studio are private and scheduled, so arriving on time means the full slot is yours.
Lash care for a life on the move
| Habit | Why |
|---|---|
| Avoid water, steam, sauna and heavy sweating for 24 hours | Helps the lashes settle |
| Wash daily with lash foam and a soft brush | Clears away sweat and oil from the heat |
| Use an oil-free remover | Protects the bond |
| Skip waterproof mascara and the lash curler | Protects your set |
| Rinse with fresh water after the sea or pool | Removes salt and chlorine |
Keep up with refills
A set looks its best for about 3 to 4 weeks, and a refill every 15 to 21 days keeps it full. If you drive Washington Soares most days, fitting a lash refill into your route is easy. See the ideal schedule in how often to get a lash refill.
If you notice persistent itching, redness, burning or eye pain, stop using products around your eyes and see an ophthalmologist or dermatologist.
